An article from Sailing Magazine describes the Colgate 26 as a highly versatile and well-regarded sailboat, praised for its safety, performance, and ease of handling.  It's a popular choice for both recreational day sailing and racing, and it's also used extensively for sailing instruction.  Its unsinkable design and stable platform make it particularly appealing for families and those new to sailing. 

Notable features include a well-designed cockpit that is spacious and comfortable for both day sailing and racing.  A simple sail plan includes a roller furling jib and loose-footed mainsail, making it easy to get underway.  The boat is ideal for beginners with a forgiving nature for those who are new to sailing.  Its spirited performance capabilities will satisfy experienced racers and low maintenance design makes maintenance easy and a practical choice for busy sailors.

The Bristol 38.8, is a well-regarded cruising sailboat, known for its seaworthiness, comfortable design, and excellent performance. Designed by Ted Hood and built by Bristol Yachts, it is often praised for its quality construction and suitability for both coastal and offshore cruising. 

Key features and strengths include a seaworthy design that is robust, capable, and comfortable for sailing on the sounds of the Outer Banks or bluewater cruising and extended offshore passages.  A comfortable interior can accommodate four to six people easily with a recently upgraded head (bathroom) and galley.  A well balanced helm offers great performance, with a full cutaway keel and shallow draft for gunkholing with the board up and solid windward performance with the board down.
