I took the ASA 101 with Captain Greg Florence at Go with the Flo Adventures, and it was exactly the kind of instruction I was hoping for.
Greg is an excellent instructor: knowledgeable, patient, direct when needed, and very good at connecting sailing theory to what is actually happening on the boat. I came in with a lot of self-study and simulator time, but the weekend on the water made everything click in a much more real way.
The course covered the fundamentals, but it also gave me a much better feel for boat handling, sail trim, docking, safety, and communication aboard. We had a range of conditions over the weekend, including some heavier wind and chop, which made the experience especially valuable.
What stood out most was that Greg clearly cares about helping students keep sailing after the course. He encouraged me, helped me understand where to keep improving, and even helped point me toward local opportunities to crew and continue learning.
If you want a relaxed but serious ASA 101 experience with an instructor who genuinely knows sailing and wants students to succeed, I highly recommend Greg and Go with the Flo Adventures.
