...grew up, got a job, moved out, determined that living on a boat would be cool and affordable, found a boat, did not know how to sail, and hired a captain to help him get the boat home.

...a 1976 Morgan Out Island 41, a heavily built, center-cockpit cruising yacht, known for its immense interior volume, shoal draft, and exceptional liveaboard space. The Kid bought it for a song and after he cleans it up and learns to sail, he'll be able to go anywhere in the world!

The trip from Elizabeth City to Manteo was blustery, crossing the Albemarle Sound on a vessel designed to cross oceans. After two hours, on a starboard tack, heeled to port, the Captain went below to check on things, only to find water coming in sporadically, behind a panel at the port side water line. Monitoring began, and once they bore away and flattened the boat, reducing heel, the leak stopped. Whew!!!!! The rest of the trip was uneventful, and it was a nice sail to Manteo, even with Lady Albemarle kicking up her heels... and oh yes, they were exhausted!!!

The Kid's friends met us at the dock, took pics, popped the bubbly, and we toasted a successful journey and the beginning of a new chapter. Let the hard work and learning continue!!
Did you ever wonder what it would be like to glide across the water, tiller in your hand, wind in your face, water flowing by the hull and making a sound that is universally understood and accepted as calming, relaxing, and peaceful? …truly Zen.
